David Kirk was born in Saskatoon and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan. Following 10 years as national secretary, he served as executive secretary of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, 1963-1985.
David also served as executive secretary, Dairy Farmers of Canada, and Canadian Egg Producers’ Council, 1968-1985.
Mr. Kirk provided leadership both nationally and internationally to a wide range of general economic and agricultural policies and programs through various policy and advisory bodies. At the international level, he was a member of the policy committee of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers, chairman of the Grains Committee 1972-1985, a member of the Canadian-American committee of the Private Planning Association, and a member of the Food and Agriculture committee of the US National Planning Association.
On the national level, David was a member of the Economic Council of Canada; the Canadian Consumers’ Council; the Canadian Council on Rural Development; and the C.D. Howe Research Institute. He provided strong leadership to the development of the National Milk Marketing Plan and initiation for national conferences on swine improvement and egg grading, which led to the formation of the Canadian Pork Council, Canadian Egg Marketing Agency, and the Canadian Egg Producers’ Council.
In recognition of his outstanding service, David Kirk was awarded the Gold Medal by the Dairy Bureau of Canada; Certificate of Excellence Award by the Ontario Milk Marketing Board; the Centennial Medal (1987); the Queen’s Centennial Medal (1975); and the McLean Lectureship, University of Guelph.
David Kirk est né à Saskatoon et a été diplômé de l’Université de la Saskatchewan. Après 10 ans comme secrétaire national, il a a occupé le poste de secrétaire exécutif de la Fédération canadienne de l’agriculture, de 1963 à 1985.
David a également été secrétaire exécutif des Producteurs laitiers du Canada et du Conseil canadien des
producteurs d’œufs de 1968 à 1985.
M. Kirk a été un leader national et international pour un grand éventail de politiques et de programmes économiques et agricoles grâce à son travail sur divers conseils consultatifs. Au niveau international, il a été membre du comité de la politique de l’International Federation of Agricultural Producers, président du Grains Committee 1972-1985, membre du comité de l’Agriculture et de l’agroalimentaire de la US National Planning Association.
Au niveau national, David a été membre du Conseil économique du Canada; du Conseil des consommateurs du Canada; du Conseil canadien sur le développement rural; et de la C.D. Howe Research Institute. Il a démontré un grand leadership dans l’élaboration du Plan national de la mise en marché du lait et dans la mise en place des conférences nationales sur l’amélioration du porc et sur le classement des œufs, lesquelles ont conduit à la formation du Conseil canadien du porc, de l’Office canadien de commercialisation des œufs, et du Conseil canadien des producteurs d’œufs.
En reconnaissance de son service exceptionnel, David Kirk a reçu la médaille d’or des Producteurs laitiers
du Canada; le Certificat de Prix d’excellence par le Milk Marketing Board de l’Ontario; la Médaille du
Centenaire (1987); la Médaille du centenaire de la Reine (1975); et le McLean Lectureship de l’Université
de Guelph.
