Alexander H. Mercer was an inspirational leader who dedicated his life to the cause of improving conditions for farmers in general and the dairy farmer in particular.
While Mr. Mercer gained distinction for his contribution to the organization and operation of the Fraser Valley Milk Producers’ Association, his activities were not limited to his adopted province.
He was a founding member of the Dairy Farmers of Canada and its first president, a charter member of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture and a member of the provisional board of directors.

Alexander H. Mercer était un leader charismatique qui a consacré sa vie à l’amélioration des conditions pour les agriculteurs en général et les producteurs laitiers en particulier.
Bien que M. Mercer ait été reconnu pour sa contribution à l’organisation et au fonctionnement de l’Association des producteurs de lait de la vallée du Fraser, ses activités ne se sont pas limitées à sa province.
Il a été un membre fondateur des Producteurs laitiers du Canada et son premier président; il a été aussi un membre fondateur de la Fédération canadienne de l’agriculture et un membre du conseil d’administration provisoire.
