F. W. Stone

An early importer of Shorthorn and Hereford cattle, Berkshire and Yorkshire hogs and Southdown and Cotswold sheep.

Although Mr. Stone was intensely interested in these breeds of livestock, his greatest claim to fame stems from his activities as an importer and breeder of Hereford cattle.

His Hereford herd was established from foundation stock imported in 1860. Twenty years later he had the largest herd of purebred Herefords in North America.

A portion of his original holdings later became the site of the Ontario Agricultural College.
