A humble servant of the Holstein-Friesian Association of Canada who dedicated his life to the promotion of his favourite breed.
Bob Holtby was a pioneer in the field of breed extension. His methods and techniques established a pattern, which has been copied but never exceeded. As one of the original Selective Registration Inspectors he developed a sound set of standards which, when applied, have contributed greatly to improvement in the type and quality of Canadian Holsteins.
He organized the first Black and White show in Canada and was the prime mover in extending shows of this type to all parts of the country.
For 15 years Bob Holtby managed the National Holstein Sale. By establishing and maintaining high standards for entry, he succeeded in attracting buyers for Canadian Holsteins from all parts of the world.
Servant humblement l’Association Holstein-Friesian du Canada, M. Holtby a consacré sa vie à la promotion de sa race de bovins préférés.
Bob Holtby a été un pionnier dans le domaine du conseil d’élevage. Ses méthodes et techniques ont fait figure de modèle, qui a souvent été imité mais qui n’a jamais été dépassé. Comme l’un des premiers inspecteurs d’inscription sélective, il a développé un ensemble de normes, qu’il a mis en œuvre et qui ont grandement contribué à l’amélioration de la conformation et de la qualité des Holstein canadiennes.
Il a organisé la première exposition Noir et Blanc au Canada et a été le principal promoteur d’expositions de ce genre dans toutes les régions du pays.
Pendant 15 ans, Bob Holtby a assumé la gérance de la National Holstein Sale. En établissant et en maintenant des normes élevées d’inscription, il a réussi à attirer des acheteurs de toutes les régions du monde pour les Holstein canadiennes.
